President's Message November 2005
The fall is my favorite
time of year. The weather is not too hot
and not too cold. Just
right. The leaves turning in northwest Jersey
are spectacular and, for a few weeks, it
seems
like we are living in a painting. The high
holidays are over and we get to prepare for
the winter
by getting our homes in order. Our Sunday
school is getting started, our construction
is
coming close to an end and the lift should
be working in the very near future.
Normally the phrase “hope springs eternal” is
used in the spring, but that is how I feel
this month. I am excited with the changes
in the building and that we will make most
of the
building handicapped accessible thrills me.
But our job is never done. There are always
issues do deal with, if it is the water that
still
gets in our basement during heavy rains,
or now making the bimah handicapped accessible.
Finances will dictate how much we can get
done and how quickly these changes can be
made. I urge you to send in your High Holiday
pledges early this year, and, as Paul said
in
his “short” appeal, please be
generous. Over the High Holidays, I get to
see most of you and
give you your annual hugs. With all of the
work I do for the temple, this is my reward.
I
hope you enjoy getting your hugs as much
as I enjoy giving them.
L’Shanah tovah.
Shalom,
Howie Hirsch
